Archive for September, 2011OOPS! We have a PA Day on Monday, so our math test is postponed until Wednesday Finish pages 1, 2, 3 in workbook Students should choose some questions to practise for our test that has been postponed to Wednesday. We have had 2 class periods to work on this, but I recommend that at least 4 or 5 questions should be done for practise. Mid Chapter Review page 10 #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Skills Bank page 16 & 17 #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Problem Bank Page 18 #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Chapter Review Pages 20 & 21 #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Skills bank questions are more for knowledge and understanding, while problem bank focuses on your child’s thinking. I also like students to remember that for communication marks, they need to be able to ‘prove’ their answers (using pictures/diagrams/numbers and/or words). Application marks are how well they can transfer the skills they’ve learned to real world situations. Adjective booklets are due on Tuesday. We are busy learning how to summarize non-fiction texts. At home you can ask your child to tell you the main idea of what they are reading. they should be able to summarize one or two paragraphs with one or two sentences. Looking for key words and asking themselves questions as they read are two strategies we have learned. We are coming to the end of our patterning unit and will be having a test next week (probably Monday). Going over questions that they had difficulty with is a great way to study.
