Sickness or Injury

Parents are asked to make sure that their child’s office records are up to date with the name and telephone number of a person(s) to call in case of sickness or injury when parents themselves cannot be reached (preferably someone in the Tilbury Area). If there is any change in this information provided, please inform us as soon as possible.

In the event a child becomes ill at school, we will first contact the parent at home or work. If the parent cannot be reached, we will contact the emergency number provided by the parent. No student will be sent home ill, unless it has been confirmed that a responsible adult is there to receive the student.

Although we try to control all potentially hazardous games or equipment on the school property, accidents do occur. In most cases, minor first aid is all that is required. Minor first aid will be provided and parents contacted if appropriate. When serious injuries occur, the parent or designated person is contacted and informed of the need of emergency medical attention. If we are unable to make parental contact, we will call for ambulance service and send the child to the hospital.

Nut Aware School

To ensure the safety of our students with peanut allergies, we are promoting a NUT AWARE environment. As this allergy is life threatening,

NO foods made from or containing peanuts, including processed foods that read “may contain traces of nuts”, are to be brought to school.

Medication

If medication must be administered at school, it is necessary that an “AUTHORIZATION FOR MEDICATION” form be completed. A new form is required each year and will be provided. Students must keep all medications in the office. Required medications will be administered by an educational assistant. If your child requires an Asthma Inhaler, we request that one be sent to school to remain here for the entire year.

Pediculosis

The control of pediculosis (head lice) requires ongoing communication between home and school. At the beginning of each school term, the school will attempt to conduct a school-wide check of all students. Other checks of students are conducted if an active case of pediculosis is detected in a classroom or is reported by a parent.

Parents can greatly assist in the effort to control pediculosis by regularly checking their child(ren)’s hair for evidence of pediculosis and by reporting any active cases to the school. It is also the responsibility of parents to treat the child with an approved shampoo or rinse and to remove all nits. Children may not remain at school if there is evidence of pediculosis in their hair and may not return to school until properly treated and all nits are removed.
