Tribes
At T.A.P.S. we are a TRIBES school. The TRIBES process establishes a caring environment for cooperative learning, as well as a structure for positive interaction and continuity for working groups. TRIBES requires learning how to build community using four agreements. The agreements are:
- Attentive Listening: paying close attention to one another’s ideas, opinions and feelings; checking for understanding and to let others know they have been heard
- Appreciation: treating others kindly; stating appreciation for unique qualities, gifts, skills and contributions; avoiding negative remarks and hurtful gestures
- The Right to Pass: having the right to choose when and to what extent you will participate in a group activity; to observe quietly if not participating and choosing whether to contribute later to the discussion
- Mutual Respect: affirming the value and uniqueness of each person; recognizing and appreciating individual and cultural differences and offering feedback that encourages growth.
