Archive for January, 2012Check out this awesome site! Watch out for the persuasive tactics all around you. Identify them to get further in the game! I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy holiday. I can’t wait to hear everyone’s stories tomorrow! Let’s see what we’ll be working on over the next few weeks! Language - Our writing focus remains on Persuasive writing. Students will be learning about the criteria for a good piece of persuasive writing and what tactics are useful to convince someone to agree with you. We will be examining pieces of writing and working to write our own. In reading, our focus will be on Point of View. When we reading pieces of writing, we will begin to recognize whose point of view is evident and whose might be missing. A few days a week, we will be running our “Daily 5 program”. These are center-based activities that allow each student to work at their own level. Math - we have already started studying multiplication of two and three-digit numbers and will continue to work on that. As well, we will begin dividing by 100s and 1000s and then study how to multiply and divide with decimal numbers. Near the end of the month, we will begin studying Geometry, with a focus on angles and triangles. Science - Tomorrow we will begin discussing our upcoming Science Fair. An information package will be sent home tomorrow. Outlines for projects are due next Friday (20th). We will also continue on our unit on the Conservation of Energy. We will be learning about different types of energy and how to conserve different types of energy. Health - we will continue focusing on Personal Safety and Injury Prevention. Our attention will be on conflict resolution. An upcoming assignment will involve a scenario-based skit designed to teach others about how to use some conflict resolution strategies. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me or call the school. Thanks for your support, Mrs. Fenlon |
